What to Expect When You Book a Session with Happy Cicada

Booking a photography session can be a daunting task. Happy Cicada Photography is here to make it easy, and I aim to make things easy to understand and to get you exactly what you want. Let's talk about what you can expect when you book a session.

People book photography sessions for a variety of reasons. Birthdays, Holidays, Graduations, Engagements, and Weddings are what most people think of when they think of booking a photographer. All moments of life can be just as magical as any other.

Did you adopt a new furry member of your family? Bring them to the park, and let's have some fun!

Did you get a promotion at work or land a new job? Get yourself some new headshots done!

Land a big role in the upcoming play or musical? You're a star honey! Get you some pictures to match!

Spent some time working on yourself, and now you've got a newfound confidence you never knew you had? You're beautiful babe! Let's take some pictures!

Did you beat cancer like I did? Badass! Let's celebrate the awesome warrior you are!

Whatever your moment is, and no matter how impractical it may be to others, it's your special moment and deserves to be celebrated.

The First Meeting

Once you've completed the booking request form on the site, all bookings will start with an initial meeting. Happy Cicada is based in the Oklahoma City metro, and meetings are usually in person. Let's chat over a cup of coffee or tea. Meeting in person is important as it gives you and your photographer a chance to see each other's personalities. Some personalities don't match each other, and that's okay. We can still work together. If every peach were put into a pie, we wouldn't have cobblers. It's important to know upfront how you work with your photographer. Maybe you're more serious and are a no-nonsense kind of person. You may be a quirky and free-spirited person. Regardless, you want to avoid your photographer appearing as being all business and straight to the point when you want a photo of you dancing in a fairy circle in your best Ren Faire attire. There is no charge for this initial meeting, and they typically last no more than 30 minutes. During this short meeting, we will briefly discuss what you are wanting, and we will go over pricing.

Getting the Details Set

Typically a week after your initial meeting, we will meet again and get down to business. This second meeting is longer and is when your deposit is due. Typically this is half down of what is discussed during your initial appointment, but it may change depending on the event to be photographed. We will discuss locations, dates, times, and wardrobe changes. Always be ready to have alternates since we live in Oklahoma and all know how crazy our weather can be. In short, this is the meeting where we hammer out the details of your session and you pay your deposit.

The Big Day

Your session day has arrived! Make sure to be at the location you've chosen on time. Be sure to bring plenty of water and, depending on the type and length of your session, snacks. If you have a wardrobe change, be sure it is also ready to go. You may think your photographer is taking a lot of pictures, but rest assured, it's for a good reason. Many little things can change in a few seconds. Do you really want to end up with a photo of you with a fly on your nose? Trust the process; you're a work of art!

Have fun with your session! Ask to see the raw pictures. It's your special day, and you deserve the best.

After Your Session

Your photos are done, and the photographer has worked the funky photographer magic and presented you with a collection of lovely photos. Now what? You order your prints, of course! Are you unsure which pictures you want prints of, or do you want to print them yourself? That's perfectly fine as well. You can order the printing rights to your photos as well. This is a flat fee depending on the number of photos taken. Want something a little different? Happy Cicada is delighted to work with you on what you want and works with several exceptional sources to get special items printed.
